Domestic help-Part 1

July 7, 2007 at 1:06 pm (Simple thoughts)

Day before yesterday, I watched a talk show program on Astro.

The moment I was channel surfing, the program has started half way through. They were discussing about “Domestic help in Malaysia.”

Somehow it reminds me of a radio program I heard months ago. They were also discussing about Domestic help in Malaysia.

Most of the Malaysian families, they will either hire an Indonesian or a Pilipino. Of course the wages differs for both nationality, and it depends on their capability.

But today, I’m not going to discuss about their nationality or background. I’m just gonna share some thoughts.

<Talk show>

A lady caller tells that “It’s good to have a helper around in the house, with RM350 a month; she could help to clean, to cook, to take care of my kids. And I would be able to go to work and spend time with my family after work. I don’t have to do the cooking or the dishes. I really appreciate her help. Without her, I think I would have a big problem handling my family.”

<Radio DJ>

Do you realise the importance of “kakak” now-a-days. Almost in every household, there’s a kakak.

kakak, help me do this, kakak help me do that”(kid)

kakak where’s my bag, kakak where’s my shoe?”(kid)

kakak this and kakak that .” (kid)

“I don’t know,go ask your kakak?” (Parent)

As you can see here, Kakak has played an important part in most of the families.

They are the cook, the butler, the nanny, the gardener and sometimes the tutor.

So…where’s the mommy?

Well, since there’s a Kakak, most of the Mummies are back in the society.

Either venturing themselves back into the working society or have founded their “Mummy’s organisation”.

Wondering what Mummy’s organisation do?

They’ll gather early in the morning for some exercise. Either Yoga classes, line-dance, tai-chi or jogs.

After that, they will go to the market to do marketing together, bargain bargain and more bargains.

After the hectic mouth exercise, they’ll gather around some happening coffee shop or hawker centre for breakfast and more extreme mouth exercise >> gossip.

The channel range from the northern part to the southern part of the state, from 3000 B.C till 2007,from Earth to Pluto, who ever comes their way >> trouble + trouble + more trouble.

After hours of conferencing, they will head home to past on the groceries.

Mummies will meet again after lunch for high tea anf for more gossip.

More diversified topics:How they educate their kids, how they treat their husband, how they take care of their body, what slimming or aging products they are consuming, how well trained their maids are….yada yada yada

So…what happened to the kids after school?

Well, the school bus will take them home.

The kakak will feed them lunch.

The kids will hitch a ride with the neighbours to go for tuition classes. Otherwise, they will stay home to play with their PS mummy and daddy brought to keep them occupied.

What about home work?

Well, it’s either DIY or the next day in school, “I dunno where my kakak keeps my book”.

Brilliant huh~! Now they have a new excuse. Not the old excuse we use, ”O~ the dog tore my book into pieces.” Or “I forgot”

At night, when mummy and daddy return home, they bring every one out for dinner.

Mummy’s happy because kakak did all the house work and took care of the kids.

Daddy’s happy cause he thought mummy did all the house work and took care of the kids, yet mummy is still young and sexy.

Kid’s happy because mummy and daddy is not at home. They get what ever they asked for.

Kakak is happy too, cause the ibu and bapa is not at home. She can sits by the telephone all day, or start searching your house for valuables. Or have a robbery plan out for “Syaitan Empat”.

One Big Happy Family isn’t it?

<to be continue>

Vocabulary:

* kakak is a term we Malaysian use to acknowledge the helper in the house.

* Kakak means sister in Bahasa Malaysia.

* Ibu means mother in Bahasa Malaysia.

* Bapa means father in Bahasa Malaysia.

* Syaitan Empat means Four Foreign Robbers coming into your house with parangs and knife,ROBBING you. Of course the “master mind” will be tied up too during the process of robbery.

Think about it~

June 22, 2007 at 1:13 pm (Simple thoughts)

spidey 3

“How long can any man fight the darkness…Before he finds it in himself?” [Quote:Spider-man3]

Everyone of my friend is telling me that it’s not worth watching spider man 3 in the cinema. So i guess i took their “advice”,because the last time i went to KL,i watched Pirates of the Carribean instead of Spider man 3.

Most probably the reason why they did not recommend Spider man was because, they were expecting more actions. But then…come on,how much “action” can Spider man gives,he only has web.The thing he knows best is sliding from building to building, hanging up side down, and photographing himself [so that he could support himself as Peter Parker].No offense, but I’m a big fan of super heroes, and i think Spider man 3 is as cool as ever.

I managed to watch Spider Man 3 from a ‘P’ rated cinema version DVD moments ago,and I think I like the movie.

I wouldn’t discuss further what happened in the movie, but here’s a quote that I would like to share with yall.

[Peter Parker; It’s the choices that we made that makes us who we are.]

And I can’t be more agree with that statement.

It’s the choices that we made that makes us who we are.

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

Or Cola?

Got the above material from a forwarded mail.Thanx to “copy & paste“.

Few years back, back when i was still in high school.Me and my friends always have a bottle of coke with a pinch of salt after our tennis training/game.

Then during school holiday, due to monsoon season, our tennis training is adjourn. So,no gathering,no tennis,no coke. Then the days went by.I felt weird everyday during evening.Because that’s when i usually have one “drink“.

Soon, i realized that i was addicted to Coke. That’s when i stop drinking it and switch back to H2O.

Coke’s biggest rival–Pepsi.

Well,Pepsi is just as bad as well.

Again,i was addicted to Pepsi’s latest flavour–Pepsi Twist. [Year 2004]

I would purchase a can of Pepsi Twist from the hostel’s ground floor vending machine and spent a few hours hanging out with my friends.(Usually at about 10:45pm)

Well,i guess my body was “twisted” by Pepsi,i started to grow sideways. And that’s pretty scary.

I started to realize my deformation when all i could wear was big t-shirts and oversize jeans.(i wasn’t ThAT fat,i exaggerated. But then..i was FAT that time ok~)

Only then,i realized it was the stupid Pepsi again.

There and then,i made up my mind to stop consuming all these soft drinks.

Put in a lot of effort to loose a few pounds.Exercise exercise exercise + eat less. And NO FAST FOOD. I wouldn’t say i suffered during the process of loosing what I’d gained. In fact I enjoyed the process, cause i felt i eat and live healthier.

And now, my favourite drink is of course H2O.

Of course i wouldn’t mind a mug of beer or a glass of wine once in a while, but i DO watch my consumption amount.[hehe~]

Absolutely

June 6, 2007 at 10:27 pm (Diary)

Indulging myself with a glass of Bailey’s and tunning in with J.T. and Robin Thicke.
Obviously I’m not lying on the couch cause i haven’t get my hands on the Macbook yet.Well,i hope I’ll be getting one soon.[fingers crossed]

Although i should be reading a book or watching a movie while enjoying my glass of Bailey’s , but i still got work to do.So,here i am … stuck in front of the computer again.[working]10:12pm

Am i a workaholic?

I would say, I wouldn’t mind being a workaholic . At least, I’m doing something / learning something / still productive, rather than just sit there and rot. I can’t stand just living without doing anything ,without a purpose in life. Life would be meaningless without a purpose.

Just that…to what extend do you define a person as a workaholic?

Perhaps I’m not that workaholic yet, cause i still go out and have fun and i still sneak around being lazy and procrastinate every once in a while.

Alright, that’s it for now, gotta head back to work.

Have a wonderful night guys.

I’ll be here still…enjoying my glass of Bailey’s and do what i like best.[design]

Absolutely enjoying myself.

People come,people go

May 28, 2007 at 5:12 pm (Diary)

Lately,i got back in touch with a friend.
We weren’t very close back then, but thanks to the help of technology(internet),we were reconnected once again.

I don’t know how much i should reveal this in a blog.
Yeah i know, blog also act as a diary. But diary is personal to me,i prefer not sharing it with the rest of the world,so I’m not going to reveal the details. ;p

Lately,I’ve been assigned to a few projects. With that, sometimes i come across needing help from my friends and extended party. There are friends who are very helpful, and some just don’t seem to bother cause helping me doesn’t seem to benefit them at all.But then, who am i to blame?
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have help up a lot.By means of information/advice/reference or even mental support.Really appreciate it guys(gals).
And for those who i don’t really know you in particular who have contributed your knowledge and expertise, thanks a bunch.I have been a stranger to you,yet you were willing to help and guide me,i would really like to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Last but not least, thank you Y.
-cheers-

Another day of May 2007

May 28, 2007 at 3:58 pm (Diary)

YLDA workshop on ICT ICT workshop ended few days ago.And everyone’s back to their normal life.Work, work and more work.

As for me,going back to work is as challenging as going hunting in the woods.

Well, here i am,well equipped with ammunition and dressed in camouflage suits.Set my trap and hid behind the bushes, waiting for my prey.

Sometimes,it takes forever to have a prey fall for my trap.Occasionally,i have to go shoot it with my guns .Worst still, the prey is being hijacked by some hyenas.Worst case scenario, instead of being the predator,i became the predator’s prey.

Well,that’s just life isn’t it?!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a poacher.

Just finish my work few hours ago.Have a couple of thoughts in my mind that i’m yet to sort it out.

Transfered the pictures that were taken during the workshop, and it totaled 943mb.

I’m deciding to edit it and upload it online so that everyone can have a chance to view it,just in case i missed uploading it the other day.

It might take sometime to do so,so please be patient and check back in more often.

miss ya guys~

keep in touch

Fund Raising,anyone?!

May 20, 2007 at 4:46 pm (Events)

[Quote: Remember: the money is out there!]by Mr. Siegfried Herzog.

This was how Mr.Siegfried Herzog ended his workshop on Internet, Fundraising, and Publicity
– Using the Internet to Search for Projects and Donors

I would say…The money is out there..it’s just the matter of getting the money out of their pockets.

One need to have lotsa guts to ask for money from a stranger.

Some will be generous to donate, while some will pretend they hear nothing, while some will just black list you.

I have never done any fund raising event before,so i would really like to try out Mr. Siegfried’s method.Perhaps i could start selling something on my personal website to raise fund for my own company.Hahaha~..just kidding.

Donation anyone?

Anything will do,Furniture,computers,Money,Paint,Air-cond,Internet Services,Cell phones,Rug,Lighting…..etc.

I will upload my company’s website once it’s done, from there you guys would be able to contact me regarding the donations that you guys would like to make.Thank you so muchie in advance.

<peace>

2nd day of ICT workshop

May 20, 2007 at 10:33 am (Events)

20th May 2007 – Gurney Hotel,
Penang,Malaysia.

2nd day of the YLDA ICT workshopFor the rest of my friends who might not know what YLDA is, basically,YLDA stands for Young Liberals Democrats of Asia. So Y-L-D-A, how do you pronounce it?Well,it’s actually pronounce as “eel-da” get it?

As for 2nd day, we manage to have the opportunity of using the Penang’s Parti Gerakan Rakyat
Malaysia head quarters’ meeting hall as our workshop venue of the day.

We kicked started the day with the opening ceremony by Yg.Berbahagia Dato Chia. Besides the 25 participants of this YLDA ICT workshop, those who also attended were members of the
Penang’s Parti Gerakan members,MCMC representatives and members of the press.

After the opening ceremony, we started our session with a presentation by two representatives from the MCMC department. Well..it was quite dull because the presenters were reading everything on the screen. “That” is a very bad way of doing a presentation. Some of the participants started “fishing”,some of them just don’t care what’s going on up front, some pretends to be listening but you can tell that the mind is somewhere else.

After the “extraordinary boring” presentation, we had our lunch.

After we got back from lunch,it’s the podcasting session. This session is held by Mr.Abe from
Philippines. He gave us a brief introduction of what pod casting is and showed us the way of running the program-Audacity(freeware).

I would say that I prefer using other software rather than using Audacity because it’s not that user friendly. And it doesn’t support wave format. So, for those of you who wanna do podcasting, REMEMBER u have to convert it to MP3 format before you can actually use the audio file that you’ve recorded. As for the background music, please make sure that the file that you’re going to use is not copy protected.

Hm….what else can I talk about 2nd day of the workshop??…

Oh yea,the rest of the group went for a ferry ride.Where was I then? I went back to the hotel and change into my crocs. I had blister on my toe after wearing heels for a day.Aw~~

Dinner was great. We had Nyonya food by the pier. The name of the restaurant is

Hai
Nan
Town. JUST INCASE you wanna drop by and check it out,the address is :Tanjong City Marina,8A,Pengkalan Weld,
10300
Penang. The food that we had was really great too.Let see if I can recall them all…– Spring roll– otak-otak– fried squid– Yam duck that taste like chicken– Asam Fish– Lo BakDrinks :
Orange juice / Mango juice / Guava juice
Dessert : Bubur Chacha

And of course, some of the guys odered beer and we odered a bottle of white wine.Thanx to Lia.She paid for the wine.Thanx to David. He paid for the wonderful dinner.

After the heavy dinner, we just head back to hotel to continue work on our blogs and on podcasting.

A friend dropped by for a little bit of chat. Then we yada yada yada for quite sometime.

Then I went out for a little bit of drink with David and guys and headed back for my late shower at about 12 midnite.

Tonite will be quite a different nite cause my sis has left the workshop. She has been my roomie for the past 2 days and suddenly I go back to the room alone and most importantly QUIETNESS. It’s abit weird, but I guess it’s ok.

Well..it’s about time to say bye bye now.BYEEEEEEEE~~

Hope you guys enjoy and check back in tomorrow for more updates.
